PITTSBURGH, PA—September 8, 2021—ONS collaborated with the National Community Oncology Dispensing Association, Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association, and Association of Community Cancer Centers to launch the IV Cancer Treatment Education (IVE) online resource. After the success of the highly used Oral Chemotherapy Education (OCE) online resource, the four oncology healthcare organizations expanded their collaboration to launch this new initiative that provides patient and caregiver resources about IV cancer therapies and their side effects.

The IVE website current offers providers 15 treatment education sheets to share with patients and caregivers as part of their education discussions prior to initiating treatment. With a committee consisting of representatives from each of the four collaborating organizations, the development process is structured to produce robust and comprehensive education sheets on individual and combination drug regimens. The sheets include common uses and treatment schedules, supportive medications, drug interactions, side-effect management, and safe handling tips.

The IVE website is an ongoing project and will have more than 170 single-agent or combination regimen sheets when completed. Suggestions are welcome for future content development, as new regimens will be added regularly. ONS members volunteer as nurse reviewers to ensure the inclusion of relevant clinical content and best practices in patient care.
