It was a full agenda for the ONS Board of Directors’ February 2019 in-person meeting, during which critical discussions and decisions about ONS and oncology nursing occurred.

Strategic

The Board looked at two key areas for strategic growth. First was encouraging integration of ONS standards and resources into oncology nursing workflows, electronic health records, and practice—while protecting ONS’s intellectual property. The second involved laying the groundwork for developing the next strategic plan, taking a long view and exploring what the oncology nurse will need not just next year, but 10 years from now.

Financial

Time was spent reviewing the year-end financial reports, which will be shared with members during the annual business meeting at Congress and in the treasurer’s report in the May 2019 issue of ONS Voice.

Leadership

The Board discussed with the Leadership Development Committee ways that ONS can continue to support a diverse representation of oncology nurses to serve in leadership positions, including engaging emerging leaders. The two groups also participated in a highly interactive, joint session focused on executive presence that helped enhance our ability to communicate clear messages through our words, our voice, and our presence.
