ONS Members Recognized in International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—August, 1, 2017—Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing recognized two ONS members, Deborah Watkins-Bruner, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Janet Carpenter, PhD, RN, FAAN, among the 19 nurse researchers selected for its 2016 International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame.   The purpose of STTI’s Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame is to recognize nurse researchers who have achieved significant and sustained national or international recognition for their work and whose research has impacted the profession and the people it serves. As part of their achievement, Carpenter and Watkins-Bruner met STTI’s rigorous criteria for the award, including   

• Integrated scholarship in their specialty and a significant and sustained level of achievement in nursing research, which has had an impact on the profession, patients, families, community, or policy
• A distinguished record of peer-reviewed publications 
• Receiving funding for a justified unique context 
• Mentoring novice researchers 
• Having a program of research with a measurable impact on policy or promotion of quality and value to service delivery
• Translating evidence to practice. 

Since 2010, STTI has been inducting nurse researchers who have achieved significant and sustained broad national or international recognition for their work and whose research has impacted the profession and the people it serves.    ONS is a professional association of more than 39,000 members committed to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and the transformation of cancer care.
