Strong leadership drives a strong organization, and ONS’s Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is critical to building the Society’s leadership today and in the future.

Under ONS’s 2022 bylaws change, ONS members gave the LDC responsibility for selecting and recommending three directors-at-large for the ONS Board of Directors to approve and appoint to Board service in 2023. The LDC assesses interested members’ readiness for Board service using established criteria and a comprehensive vetting process and identifies candidates who best align with the Board’s needs and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Beyond the 2023 directors-at-large selection, the LDC guides members who are interested in Board service about opportunities to develop their leadership abilities for eligibility. For more information about the LDC and Board selection process, visit the ONS website or contact any member of the LDC.

If you’re ready to develop the next generation of ONS leadership, applications are now open for the LDC class of 2022–2025. LDC members serve a three-year term and must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Communicate effectively with members of diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrate commitment to mentoring and developing others.

  • Be approachable and establish relationships easily.

  • Maintain a well-established network of ONS members.

  • Work well in a team, putting the group's goals above their own agenda.

  • Understand DEI and commit to align the LDC’s work with ONS’s DEI priorities.
